Preparing

How was your Thanksgiving week?  Did the fun end all too soon for you?

Was your focus fully on the blessings of the week?  Or, did the process of preparing everything take priority over enjoying it?

Please tell me I’m not the only one who struggles with that!  Concentration while preparing doesn’t come easy when there’s activity and chatter around the room.  How I want to stop and join in!  I must force myself to focus on each task at hand when preparing.  Whether it’s a recipe, setting the table, organizing buffet line hot pads, I must concentrate while preparing.  Can you relate?

Do you find it easy to delegate things?  To give others tasks?  Can you teach me how to do that well?

This year, I chopped some ingredients in advance to cut down on prep time while everyone was here.  It helped, but there are always things that have to wait ’til the last minute.

I’m thankful for willing helpers…for family members who do not complain when everything doesn’t turn out perfect…when I’m distracted (ADD!) and not smiling always…and when they help clean up.  How about you?

If your Thanksgiving festivities are over, today can be a day of basking in the aftermath of good times.  Our preparation gave over to good family fun, good food, good memories.  Let’s involve God in the Thanksgiving of our hearts, shall we?

Let’s worship through songs of thanksgiving.

Just as we concentrate on preparing our home, our table, and finally, our meal at Thanksgiving, we prepare for worship.

Throughout the year, we prepare our hearts for worship each week.  Then, when we engage in worship, we can fully rejoice.

psalm-118-24

You bless me more than you probably realize.  So, thank you.

I’m thankful for you all.

Since this IS Black Friday week, I wanted to give you plenty of notice so you’ll be ready on Friday.  Share this freebie with your friends on Facebook, Twitter, Pinterest… wherever you and most of your friends hang out on-line.

Black Friday Deal

PIN ME!

You may wonder why you might need the LEARN TO SEW course if you already know the beginning steps for sewing (like how to thread your machine and how to sew a straight seam) and that all you really need is to learn the SEWING BASICS for Home Accessories.  Here’s why.

In the LEARN TO SEW course, you’ll make a simple pillow, a table topper, and add a simple fringe along the topper edge.
You might enjoy seeing my processes for making these projects.
I’m interested in seeing how other people do things, so you might be, as well.
Possibly, you’ll see a couple of different techniques you’d like to use.

After you purchase the SEWING BASICS FOR HOME ACCESSORIES e-course, I’ll send a coupon code to you by email for enrolling in the LEARN TO SEW course for free.

Black Friday Deal

You may have a relative or a friend who needs the LEARN TO SEW course.  And, after they finish that course, they’ll want to continue building their skills in the SEWING BASICS course.  It makes sense because they go hand-in-hand.  Just think of how they’ll benefit from having both courses rolled into one gift!

Remember, there’s no limit, so share with your friends.  There’s room for everyone.

I’ll send a reminder by email about an hour before midnight Thanksgiving night.  The offer begins at 12:01 AM Friday, November 25th, and is good only until midnight Friday.  If you aren’t enrolled to get my posts by email, you may want to take care of that today so you’ll receive the reminder.

First things first, though.  Tomorrow, you’ll see a special Mississippi Thanksgiving tablescape, and then you’ll hear from me again just before midnight Thursday night.  You’ll have until midnight Friday night to enroll in the SEWING BASICS FOR HOME ACCESSORIES course and receive the coupon by email for the FREE LEARN TO SEW HOME DECOR course.

What other shopping plans do you have for Black Friday?  Will you be leaving early and standing in long lines?  Go get ’em!  🙂

Journaling Thankfulness

Do you write down things each day that you’re especially thankful for – like in a journal or on a calendar?

Confession:  I don’t, but I know I should.  Someone (and you know who you are, my email friend. 🙂 )  inspired me recently because she was saying that she planned to start doing that.

I think writing things down makes us appreciate our blessings more.  Do you?  Journaling our thankfulness makes us more intentional about being thankful for those blessings.

psalm-136-26Image Source

While thinking about and planning for the Thanksgiving gatherings we’ll enjoy this week, I’ve thought a lot about my blessings.  No matter how little or how much we have, we all have reasons to be thankful.

Gee…even the basics are reasons for Praise because God provides every breath we take!  He designed creation itself for all of us to enjoy.

I’m reminded of our 80-degree Friday heat and the sudden plummet to 57 degrees the next day.  We often complain about the weather, but we can be thankful for some part of it.  Our weather change brought rain for some areas that were needed so badly!  We didn’t get any, but at least some did.

I’ll gladly wear a jacket for some to get rain out of the deal!

I noticed something on this picture below.  Above the November month on my wall calendar (that I keep inside a cabinet door), it looks like someone is writing something in a notebook.  What a coincidence, eh?

And, woo-hoo, another coincidence.  Krispy Kreme made the picture and is part of our family history as one of our favorite special treat spots.  I’m thankful for Krispy Kreme and all the memories attached to that place.  Sweet, delicious memories of our smiling kids watching the donuts travel through the warm fountain of love….

Another confession – I stole that “fountain of love” quote from D, my Georgia 2 AM friend, because it’s the perfect name for that glaze coating in action.

Let’s grab any calendar or notebook and start writing down something we’re thankful for each day.  Anything can become a journal – even a school-type notebook.  Once you write in it, voila! – it’s a journal.  🙂

Are you with me in this?

Let’s praise the Lord today with thanksgiving for all of His blessings upon us, whether we’ve written them in a notebook or not!

Waterfall Panels – A How-To Video

During the last four years, people have asked me about the dining room window treatments they see in many of my tablescape pictures.  I made these before I began blogging, so of course I made no pictures as I made these panels.  With no in-process pictures, how can readers understand how to make these?

Waterfall Panels

Another new reader contacted me a couple of weeks ago for instructions in making these panels.  Rather than trying to explain with no in-process pictures and only words, I decided to explain with what I have – the panels themselves.

This panel went upstairs to my sewing room.  (Not magically, of course, but with help – me.  Ha.)

Waterfall Portion of Curtain Panel

I made this video where I show the “after” while explaining the process for getting the look.

It’s not nearly as good as explaining the process with in-process pictures.  But…if you sew, this video may help you make these waterfall panels for your home.  (Fingers crossed!)

PIN this image to easily refer back to it later.

The Elephant in the Room

I know Veteran’s Day is over,
but I published Friday’s post without mentioning the fact that
I appreciate all that our service men and women do for our freedoms.
If you are a veteran or a veteran’s spouse, parent, or child,
you have seen the sacrifice they make (or made) first-hand.
And, you sacrifice(d)as well.  So, thank you!
I hope you’ll forgive me for thanking you late.

You know the old saying about ignoring the elephant in the room.  Of course you do.  Well, who CAN ignore something so big and powerful?

As a nation, we’ve never been so divisive.  In my opinion, it centers around the fact that many people try to exclude God from involvement or acknowledgement in their lives.

God IS the elephant in the room.

Imagine a real elephant standing in your living room.  Everyone ignoring its presence wouldn’t change the fact that it’s there.  And in the way!

God fills a room, except He’s not in the way.  He’s never obtrusive or pushy, either.

No matter how much people ignore Him, it doesn’t change the fact that He’s there.  Right there.  In their midst.  In our midst.

He wants to fill us (and our rooms) with His love and His peace – and joy in Him.

Romans 15:13Click Image to Go To Source

Imagine how He fills our rooms with such hope!  God’s children, who are those that believe in Him and obey His word, are filled with His Holy Spirit.  So, the rooms of our hearts are full of His goodness.

No matter how hard people try, our nation will never remove the Lord from our hearts, our rooms, and our land.

Let’s sing His songs today!  🙂

Why and How to Stay Strong

Whether rain or shine, dooms-day or hay-day, we march on.  Why?  Well, we pretty much don’t have a choice but to move forward.  Unless we do something drastic.

Please, please, please don’t do anything drastic.

This verse in Galatians tells us why we shouldn’t give up.  In due season, we will reap.

do-not-give-up-galations-6-9

That is, IF we do not give up.  So, please don’t give up.

I did that once – for months – and it wasn’t good.  Matter of fact, it was awful, mostly for everyone around me.  My problem was I kept looking at the problem.  And it looked from the outside like it was never going to change.  It appeared that I was going to have to live life in complete and utter misery.

And  so I gave up.

And, one day after my husband woke me up to reality – that I needed to get up and get going again – I realized the solution.  The answer had surrounded me.  I heard this same message from various people, plus our preacher in a sermon at church, from an article I read on-line, everywhere it seemed and all in the span of a few days.

Do you think God was trying to get through to me?  Duh!  Here’s what He finally got through to me.

I needed to stop looking at my problem…and look at the Lord instead.

That’s what I started doing.  Every day.  And, then I noticed some really good things in my life – reasons to be thankful.  I also realized that if I looked at God Almighty Who is strong and powerful, my problem didn’t seem so big anymore.  After all, God can and does fix problems!

These are your two main “how” answers right here.

  • Get your eyes off your problem and get them onto the Lord.
  • Look around and notice the good things and fill your mind with thankfulness for your blessings.

So, do you think you could do these two main things and see how the changes give you a new perspective?  Can you handle seeing some good things now while you wait for reaping in the due season?
